Hi Reader, This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is fitting for the world we find ourselves in: Accelerate Action. On the IWD website, they state that at the current rate of change, we won’t experience full gender equality until 2158. And with current politics feeling like we’re taking massive steps backwards, it may be even longer than that. We do indeed need to #AccelerateAction. How do we do that? How do we create positive change in a world that increasingly threatens the rights of women and others facing oppression? We come together. There is no other way. We remember that we are stronger in community. We stop arguing about the minor differences in our beliefs, and nurture that which we agree upon. We shed the individualist thinking so common in North American culture, and return to the collective. Especially as women because when women come together, we can make waves. Tidal waves. Thus, for IWD this year, I offer you these journaling prompts… I feel brave as a woman when I… I feel supported by other women when… Supporting other women feels… May we come together. May we come together. May we come together. One more prompt for you: I’m a loving, brave woman when I… How will you take action this week and throughout 2025 to #AccelerateAction? Me? I will bring my guided journaling workshops into more organizations, offering a healthy coping skill that can decrease stress and improve overall wellbeing, even heal trauma. I will write more, and with more courage. I will be willing to stick my neck out more often, speak up and say the things that matter. (And oof, is this ever hard! I spoke up when I saw mistreatment this past week and got called a "blow hard". Thankfully the person eventually apologized and recognized that they were unnecessarily taking out their frustrations on me. It was in a fairly safe space so I was able to consider it good practice in not taking everyone's shit personally. Yay me! Growth!) I will support other women and BIPOC folks who are working hard to create change in our society. I will share their words. I will keep unlearning and relearning. I will challenge my white-centric perspective. I will do all this imperfectly, and extend myself compassion when I mess up rather than hide in fear of not being good enough. I'd love to hear how you will #AccelerateAction for women's rights in 2025, Reader. Hit reply and let me know. It's time to make waves. In solidarity, Parrish |
Happy (Easter) Sunday Reader, I wasn’t raised religious. In fact, my home was very anti-religion. My mother had been raised Protestant, converted to Judaism for her first husband, and began adamantly identifying as an Atheist by the time I came along. My stepfather too, a man of science, had little time for spiritual leanings, and indeed no time for the seemingly backward beliefs and traditions that accompanied religion. We were a feminist household, social activists, hippies, academics....
Hi Reader, Life is full these days… Spring has sprung and so the backyard needs tending, the house begs for Spring Cleaning, the kids are wrapping up extra-curriculars and starting new ones, work keeps chugging along, and oh ya, there’s a serious threat of fascism. Just another Tuesday night, right? In the mess of it all, have you been craving a moment to just breathe… and maybe pick up your pen again? The Spring Series of Sacred Pages starts next week and the 3-week workshop series is...
Hi Reader, Writing has been challenging lately. I feel too much. I open socials and the devastating state of the world is right there on display, for us all to watch and grieve. I look around my house at the mess, the endless to-do list, the ongoing needs of a family where everyone is living with a chronic illness, and I feel like it’s impossible for anything to be different, for it to ever be easier. I feel the weight of being a mother and global citizen at this time, and the further burden...
